Hello old, Look for the simple things first. Here is the list in the order of importance. Overflow tank leak, very common leak source. Coolant level when possible. Water pump belt tension, fan clutch or electric fan operation, and the pump itself. Collappsed hoses, usually soft to the touch, and may also be bulged out to a different size. Thermostat, if it was at fault for his truck, it was the old style. New style thermostats fail in the open position. Head gaskets leaking. Broken head bolts. A hot trasmission will add eanough heat to the radiator to make the engine overheat. This should get you or him started. Guido.
