That thick block the bolt threads into might be there just in case the bolt ever broke or rusted and you had to get it out to remove the tank. 3 or 4 seconds to weld a nut on isn't going to get the tank shell hot enough to worry about. You could wrap a water soaked rag around the block before welding but don't cool the weld with water after it's done. Putting water in could cause some corrosion after it's drained out. You could shoot some CO2 in the tank if you're at all worried. A small CO2 fire extinguisher would work. I don't think you'll have any problems at all though just welding the nut on. Dave
