They did a tranny upgrade to make them better through the years.
The first ones were good idea, a little rough around the edges. Gave them a bad name.
The later ones were pretty good; but there are 3x as many parts in there. With a few parts no longer supported. And a machine over 40 years old.
So, they sell pretty chepa around here - you assume it's got something wrong with it that will be more complicated & more $$$ to fix.
JD went on to make the idea into one of the more respected & wanted trannies around. So it wasn't a bad thing. But - still has a bad rap, and they are old on a Ford by now. Makes them less valuable, but really liked by people who have a good one.

Today's Featured Article - Restoration Story: Fordson Major - by Anthony West. George bought his Fordson Major from a an implement sale about 18 years ago for £200.00 (UK). There is no known history regarding its origins or what service it had done, but the following work was undertaken alone to bring it up to show standard.
