May as well be slightly controversial while I'm at it.
The case has been settled so I will report on it.
Local county cop stopped a very respectable older guy on his way to work, supposedly for a headlight being out of line. Cop saw a bag of grayish powder in the floorboard, said it was cocaine. It was actually agricultural lime(farm related post anyway) not in the original bag, but cop took man to jail, did not let him call wife or lawyer, bond set at $100k(about the same time someone accused of murder was let out on $70k bond), held for 4 days then released. Man was willing at first to let the matter drop, his family said NO, you are going to sue for our sakes and the sake of the general public. Case was settled for apologies and cash, probably less than $100k. Looks like a clear case of DWB to me. For some reason the case was kept out of the news media.
Maybe the deputy will get a class on drug identification.
