This has been quite a few years, but sounds like the same issue I had with my IH151 combine.
I had even switched fuel pump and carb with my parts machine. It would always start and run good for a while, then start sputtering and die.
Took a while to figure out, but it ended up being a wasp had somehow found it's way into the fuel tank and would eventually get sucked into the fuel line before the fuel strainer, as soon as it died the dead wasp would float just far enough back to restart and run for a while. I finally found it when I decided to run it clear out of gas, thought maybe a chunk of rust was floating around and I would just swap tanks with the other machine.
As soon as I unscrewed the sediment bowl assembly again I saw "something" hanging part way out of the tank. Pulled him on out with a pair of needlenose pliers, had no problems at all after that. DOUG
