I've seen grease guns with a screw type vent but most I've seen have a small hole in the thread area which allows air to escape when the head is loosened a few treads. After the air bleeds out, screwing the head back down tight shuts off the vent. Having said that, the oil in many greases will separate (especially in hot weather) and leak out the t-handle hole and anywhere else there is a way to get out. I just keep my gun wrapped up in an old rag and wipe it off every time I go to use it.
