Last February coming in to Minneapolis in a snow storm I rolled my pickup on the freeway. Cop was a real meanie and wrote me a ticket for "failure to use due care" I was huffed and decieded to fight the ticket. June rolls around and I finally go in to the hearing officer. I tell them I want to go to go to court. 6 weeks later I go in to see the City prosecutor. He calls my name and we have a little confab. I tell him I have a good case and want to roll the dice before a judge. He tells me he's a paid professional who's trained to beat people like me in court. He offers me a deal: plead guilty, pay the $145 fine and if no other moving violations within 1 year it does not go on my record. I say No. I will face my accuser before the judge. He calls me back a few minutes later and offers me this: Plead guilty to doing 64mph in a 55 and pay the $145 fine. I'm thinking WHAT?? I didn't get a ticket for speed. He tells me 64 in a 55 does not go on your record at all. We need the money. I'm pretty much dumbfounded but I agree and pay the fine. What a screwy system for sure. I would have liked to confront the ticketing officer. No cause for them to be so insolent, arrogant and mean. But I took what I thought was the easy way out.
