Lou, I wish I could come up with something witty to make you feel better - but can't think of much. Just be glad you've got some family around. I'm 15 years younger then you, and I have been "terminally ill" twice during the past 25 years. Obvisously, a few doctors were wrong. I've also had a broken neck and couldn't speak for 6 months or walk for a year. During that time, I didn't know if I'd ever walk again. Subsequently something struck me (mentally that is). My entire self-worth seemed to be based on what I could do, . . . building houses, fixing tractors, cutting wood, etc. Well . . . once you can't do those things - and your self-worth depends on them - things can get pretty depressing fast. I'm not saying that's how you are - since I have absolutely NO idea. I'm just blowing hot air about my own experience. For me, just when I was getting REAL depressed, I found out I had some true friends around - and that made all the difference to me. Made me think perhaps I did have some worth even when I couldn't do anything. Also lost several people I thought were friends who fled at the first sign of trouble.
I've got a wife, kids, and grandkids that like me most of the time . . . AND . . . a dog who loves me ALL the time. Those things all help a lot.
Count your blessings and take some comfort in the fact that there are many worse off then you - even if it doesn't seem that way for now.
My cousin just sent me a letter (received it yesterday). I haven't seen him in 50 years. He's 85 years old. His wife died last year, his only child/daugther does not talk to him, he has NO dog, and now he's going senile. He asked me to come visit him down south this winter before his mind is totally gone. Now, for him? I can't think of ANYTHING to say. But hey Lou, aren't you better off then him . . . maybe??
Some people are blessed with never worrying about anything. My mom is 98 years old and doesn't care about anything at all. No joy and no depression. I ask her if dying scares her and she says "no." I ask her if she believes in God, and she says "no."
I guess we're not like my mom, but I don't really want to be anyway. Without some downs in life, you'll never notice the "ups."
Sorry I couldn't come up with anything better to say, Lou. But hey, I named my little kid after your - sort of.

Today's Featured Article - Upgrading an Oliver Super 55 Electrical System - by Dennis Hawkins. My old Oliver Super 55 has been just sitting and rusting for several years now. I really hate to see a good tractor being treated that way, but not being able to start it without a 30 minute point filing ritual every time contributed to its demise. If it would just start when I turn the key, then I would use it more often. In addition to a bad case of old age, most of the tractor's original electrical system was simply too unreliable to keep. The main focus of this page is to show how I upgr
