Probably wouldn"t hurt to fire a couple primers through unloaded gun to be sure the passage from primer to chamber is clear. Son had one plugged with bore butter once. Guess what didn"t fire. If an inline, can you insert a needle or pin thru primer nipple to breech chamber? That has been our greatest problems. Sidelocks are very prone to having plugs in the channel between nipple and breech. Son shoots Pyrodex pellets, I use Pyrodex powder. Both are dirty, and a thorough clean is a necessity after every shoot. Nephew failed to clean a muzzle loader after use. We destroyed the breech plug getting it out. Fortunately had a spare from another gun, and were able to put gun back in service. Lesson learned. Pyrodex, and black powder are your enemy - very corrosive byproducts.
To the guy putting down inlines, there is no difference in performance other than a little more reliable firing. Don't put inline users down!
