55 horse tractor is a little on the small side to be chopping hay with. New Holland made some small choppers and they where rated I think at 60hp. I think you could do it if your land is flat and you take your time. You could go with a green/flail chopper if you’re going to feed it out right way. Remember you have to pull a chopper box behind the chopper. Green chopper takes a little less horse power to run. If you look at a New Holland 718 they came with a one row or two row corn head maybe a 6 or 5 foot hay head. Can’t remember if they made smaller pull type units.
