You mentioned keyless remotes. The last time I bought a car, a keyless remote was the #1 requirement. Why? When I'm out on the job inspecting houses, I lock and unlock my car a dozen or more times a day. Also, I'm constantly in and out of the trunk to get a measuring wheel, camera pole, etc. A keyless remote is so much more convenient, going back to unlocking locks manually isn't even an option.
Also, I recall when I was a teenager back in the 1950's, if an engine had 50,000 miles on it, it was due for a "ring and valve job". Ditto for automatic transmissions. Back then, a car rarely reached 100,000 miles. Nowadays, cars routinely go several hundred thousand miles, with the engine and trans usually outliving the rest of the vehicle.
I once owned a '57 Mercury for eight years. I nostalgically refer to it as the best car I ever owned. During the time I owned it, I drove it through some 40 states. But, would I go back to manual windows and door locks, no air conditioning, no power steering or power brakes, no remote side mirrors, no keyless entry, etc? No way!!
If it hadn't been for air bags, I would have become a widower 7 years ago. I was assured that by several law officers at the scene of a head on collision. Thanks to the air bag, my wife walked away from it.
It would take some rather "revoltin' developments" before I'd go back to the cars of 40 years ago.
