Your first clue that it is a scam is that they are avoiding the post office. There's no mail fraud involved if you use Fed Ex. The cashier's check is fake, but it may take a week or two before the bank comes back to you to make it good. Apparently cashier's checks don't clear nearly as fast as your personal check. The check will be for more than you expected, so they will ask that you refund the difference - in cash. they have no intention of every picking up the tractor, they're just trying to convert some fake checks to real cash.
