Where I work we have a book saw that has 2 Weg motors on it. One for the rip and one for the crosscut. These motors ride on a carriage and are unique because no other motor with the same power will fit on the carriage and have clearance as it moves making the cut. In short that means it's a motor with less clearance than normal for the rotor and stator. For the first 5 years we had problems with these motors going bad. Starting them up it would build heat and if it had been running for a long while,stopped and restart the extra heat would cause the rotor to rub the stator. I installed soft starts and that took care of the problem. They now run 24/7's for years and no problems.
Mind you these are the only Weg motors I've worked with. Weg may have produced these just for this saw. I can't remember the kw rating but one is about 25hp and the other is about 30 hp and each are about 2/3 the size of a motor of equal power and both turn 3,500 rpm's. After getting them on soft starts I now think they are good motors. Before the soft starts I thought they were junk. Both are on 480 3 phase.
