It's been 10 years since my dad passed away. He was my best friend as well as my father. I still miss him every single day. That never goes away.
The family had a sale to dispose of dads property. It wasn't an auction. Most of the stuff was either bought by family or friends, but some of the stuff was sold at what can best be described as a big garage sale. That wasn't too bad until we got down to the very end. Then it hit me, dads 85 years of collecting was down to a handful of items. The very last thing unsold was a 6' spud bar. I could not sell it. Later that day, I gave it to one of dads oldest living friends who lived next door to mom and dad. He died 2 years later, and his son showed up at my house a few weeks later with the spud bar. He said his father (my dads friend) had instructed him to make certain I got it back.
Funny how the most insignificant things seem so important when you think about who's held them in the past.
