There was a lot of Combine activity across US Rt 20 from me today. A neighbor, cash crop farmer and custom operator, harvesting soybeans. One of my uncles trying to harvest corn, but not having a good day in spite of the spectacular weather. Not a cloud in the sky for the last two days, temp about 60F. He and his brother, both in their 70s just keep going. One has been having problem with his knee, today the doctor hospitalized him and wants to operate. The other one has been dealing with postate canser, and all the inconveniences in every day life that it causes. He Stopped at buy by house on his way to the field with the combine and asked me to come down and pick him up about 4:30 so he could get back and feed the 125 head of young stock that they board. Seeing how nice a day it was I got out my sons Case 770 and headed down to get him and a couple of Kill Bros wagons full of corn. The corn field is down over what we call the ledges on their lower farm. Well, I guess Murphey was along for the ride! First a gathering chain broke on the header, and when he was coming up over the ledges the rear wheel cought an outcrop and snapped the tierod on the rear axle. I will go down tomarrow and weld it together. The neighbor, cashcropper was also harvesting soybeans one field over, and down over the same ledges. Sorry for the poor quality of pics. of them, but the field was already shaded from the sun. Anyway, looks like they had a pretty good day, all though there were spots that they did not attempt,(Mud}
