You won't believe this but 30 yrs ago my brother took two delco alt and welded them together, and hammered out a longer center section. One charges the left batt 12 volt neg ground and the other charges the right batt 12 volt pos ground. The lights on the left side are pos ground and the lights on the left side or neg ground, the dash lights are divided up the same way. The alt still workes. If it ever quits we are going to convert the tractor to 12 volt neg ground.
