My son bought a new Cub Cadet lawn and garden tractor at a big name chain home supply store in Sept. Had it 2 weeks, with just barely 2 hours on the meter. This particular day, he used it to move some brush and leaves in a cart, parked and shut it off to do something, and when he tried to restart it it, the solenoid clicked but starter did not spin. Motor was locked up and flywheel could not be turned by hand. Took it to closest authorized repair facility about 26 miles away. Their first words were "Well, you must have run it out of oil and then added it up when it would not start".
Two weeks later he was called to pick it up and was informed that the problem was caused by a rusted bendix and therefore not covered by warranty. They would not believe him when he told them the tractor had been covered with a Cub Cadet canvas cover at all times when not in use. Since he could not prove that the problem originated from before he purchased the tractor, warranty was denied. They also let him know that if he had bought the tractor from them, the repairs would have been covered. Selling chain store says they can do nothing to help.
Another reason I only buy tools and equipment from reputable suppliers who stand behind the warrantees!
