That is far from true. The Finger Lakes have suffered badly for many years from industrial, farm, and development pollution.
Last water quality done in 2008 ranked like this for all the Finger Lakes. "Good" - 2% "Poor" - 12% Owasco and Honeoye Lakes - worst Skaneateles and Canandaigua - best
Central New York and some interior lakes in the Adirondacks have some of the cleanest water in the United States - NOT the Finger Lakes.
