I would bet that the adaptor you are trying to put in is the wrong thread pitch. Carefully compare it to the one you took out. If you have a thread gauge it is easier. If you have a set of taps & dies they usually have one in them. If you try to force in the wrong thread pitch you will ruin the threads in the block.
You are screwing the correct side of the adaptor into the block?? Both sides are threaded. One is for the filter and the other is for the block. Different thread pitches.
