7-10 years on most residential sites that I have installed turbines on. Some sites that were poorly evaluated Never!! Out of every 20 people who call me wanting to put up a wind turbine maybe one site is good, a couple fair, the rest poor. The pour sites I sugest Solar PV rather than wind, and encurage those with decent sites to put in a hybrid wind/Solar system if the budget allows. My job as a salesman is very flustrating, because I talk to customers who want to buy and I end up telling them why they shouldn't if they are looking to wind energy for financial gain only. Wind energy is a viable means of reducing ones energy bills, but by taking simple steps to reduce consumption often costs nothing and reduces your energy bills as much as investing in renewables. That being said, if you do both you may have no bill at all, other than the cost of the equipment which is supplemented greatly by the state and federal gov. tax breaks, and grants. More and more people here are thinking in this direction. I'm amazed at how many off gridders that I have met in the last two years.
