After cruising along and getting harvest out of the way it seems we have been able to keep busy as always. Very few acres see a moldboard plows these days. We seem to plow a few acres every year. I enjoy it. Got rained out this afternoon with about 5 minutes of work left to do.
We have always called these "sea gulls". They always seem to come around when we plow. Anybody know what they really are called?
Wrigley woke up from a nap and was VERY interested!
We have spent alot of time with the cattle since harvest.
In the background of the picture you can see a little bit of the new fence we built. Some it board fence and there is also over half a mile of new woven wire just out of the picture. We have lots of good neighbors and they always stop in to visit, unless we are building fence! Guess they were afraid I would put them to work. There are also 14 bred 4 year old cows in the pic that I bought earlier this month.
Just to keep things interesting Pioneer came sunday morning at 6am to haul some of our beans to the plant in Woodhull for processing. If you are planning on planting 93y60 beans next year, this could be them headed your direction. Wonder how much that grain vac set up cost?
One perk to being on the farm everyday is I get the opportunity to enjoy many sunrises just like this one.
Our biggest commitment these days is feeding cattle. This is where we start out every morning. This is our feed bunker. A pile of processed corn stalks, processed hay, and gluten. There are two bags of silage directly opposite of the bunkers. Its primitive but seems to work, at least so far.
This in Nick processing a bale of hay into the bunker. As you can see it will make the 4020 snort a little.
We feed the cows a mix of hay, corn stalks, gluten and silage. Everything gets dumped in the mixer and then I drive over to feed the cows.
The cows are feed every morning in a stalk field. I think 33 likes the feed!
We weaned and vacinated calves last thursday so they are up in the main lot and fed in the bunks twice a day. They are getting hay, silage, gluten and a supplement. Seems as they are getting over being away from mom pretty quickly.
Of course ALL of this happens under the watchfull eye of our mascot. Wrigley works from sun up till sundown but once we hit the house at dark he is out like a light! Well thats whats going on around here. What have all of you been up to? Somebody out there has got to have some fun project! bill

Today's Featured Article - Restoration Story: Fordson Major - by Anthony West. George bought his Fordson Major from a an implement sale about 18 years ago for £200.00 (UK). There is no known history regarding its origins or what service it had done, but the following work was undertaken alone to bring it up to show standard. From the engine number, it was found that this Major was produced late 1946. It was almost complete but had various parts that would definitely need replacing.
