The 150$ market is just fine. Only consider an optical zoom, digital zoom is not zoom it is just cropping the image, and reducing resolution. The lense should move in and out with zoom. Fuji, canon, Sony, nikon, olympus are all great. 6 mega pixels is reasonable for making photos that you want to print for home use. less is OK for internet display. My wifes Fuji is 8mp and was less than 95. Battery life today is dramatically better than in the past. Changable Lithium Metal Hydride batteries are great even if of special shape. Purchase a spare and take it with. AA and AAA batteries do last a long time now, but are handy in the fact that they can be found most places. Jim
