The cut out is stuck/bad. Your tractor could have one of two types on it. The most common, original, just has two terminals on it. They are opposite each other. This one just cut out when the voltage got high enough. It also is supposed to disconnect when not charging, generator stopped. The contacts burn together and stick. The more modern type actually is a voltage regulator. They usually had three terminals, marked: Field,Gen,and Bat.
They both cost about the same money to replace. The only problem is that most are imported anymore and about half of them are junk. This is even true if you go to Ford to buy them. This site has them for sale as well. I think that these are Tisco parts. They are imported too. I can"t/won"t say how good they are.
You should try posting over on the Ford forum. They can better tell you where to get a good one. I have repaired them years ago by cleaning the stuck contacts. I would not recommend it anymore. As the one on it is more than likely a replacement. I only had any luck with the old originals, they where made better.
