Up until about twenty years ago our neighborhood had a couple of bachelors who who lived that way. One in a house and the other in a small mobile home on separate farms about 3/4 mile from each other. Neither one had plumbing or phone but both of them had electricity. Their sewer was a 'thunder jug' or a pail. They threw it somewhere outside but in the forty years I knew them I never saw where. Both of them were in their mid-90's when they finally moved to town. Both of them had only been in the hospital once in their lives when the prostate plugged up. The one that lived in the house never washed his clothes and never took a bath but he was the kindest person in the world who had the neatest smile and he was as healthy as a horse. I'd stop by to say hi nearly every day and one of those times a friend who came with me about lost his cookies when he stepped inside. I was used to it so it didn't bother me. Today,20 years later, the health and zoning department would have kicked them out of their homes and made them move to town where they would have been in a less healthy environment living around the public.
