When you say "I don't have to take any job, much less a sucky one", what do you mean? That you have enough other resources that you don't have to work? Or that you have unemployment payments coming in, presumably forever, after yesterday's compromise? If its the former, you might want to just retire; if the latter, you might want to write to MY congresswoman, and urge her to ignore Mittge's letter to her on the subject.
I do hear ya on the over 50 thing. They don't want any smart-aleck old guy who is going to try to run things, or an older guy who can't "cut the mustard" physically. Of course, they're all smart enough to know about age discrimination, but they can tell from your resume about how old you are, and if you are able to finagle an interview, theirs no hiding your geezerhood from them. They will always come up with non-age related reasons for going with someone else.
