I'm in the technology business, I work from home often. I have numerous people who work for me, some fulltime at home workers, spread all around the country, and some once a week to save a commute.
I agree, it is not for all, and takes some focused effort and work ethics. However if you have that, and work for a ligitiment employer, it can be great. Saves travel expenses, (significant these days) and gives you back time you would have spent traveling for work, or personal time.
For those who do this fulltime, we pay for their connectivity, equiptment etc.. It is more than offset by the realestate they free up in the office by not having to have a place for them to sit.
Never have anybody who works at home call in that they cannot get to work in the snow or ice,,,, so they cover those events and make up for those who can't get here on time.
