I headed out the door this morning shortly after 6:30 really not knowing what we were going to get into.
This is a picture of nick loading the vertical mixer while I am in the cattle shed. He's about a 150 feet from where I'm standing.
The Higgs farm where we winter the cows is three miles over and three miles back, getting there today was no small task. I did meet a car and a snow plow on the way over and I dont have a clue what ether one of them was doing.
This is our reason for being out in todays weather. The cows have to be fed. They can handle this weather just fine as long as they get fed. Quite a few of them were down in the draws in the field. Others were up in the sheds. I fed them up close to the buildings today.
The calves are here at home and they are normally feed in fenceline bunks but... the bunks are out on the north side of the lot and I sure wasnt going to make those poor guys stand out in this so we pulled right in the lot in front of the shed and fed them on the ground but at least a little out of the weather.
Wrigely sat in the tractor with me this morning and stared out at the crappy weather. He normally runs around the barn lot while we are here but today, he spent most of the time in the tractor. Currently he is curled up on a rug in the kitchen napping. I dont know how much more snow we are supposed to get but it is still near zero visibilty outside and the snow is starting to pile up. Forecast for morning has the temps around 0F. I sure hope the wind lets up before morning! bill

Minus two kids, we traveled light with only the youngest in tow. As long as a pool was at the end of our destination she was easy to please unlike the other two who have a multitude of requirements to travel with mom and dad. Amana Colonies served as a respite where we ate a family style lunch that sustained us with more food than could reasonably fit into our ample physiques. The show at Ankeny
