What Brad said. I think you will have flow issues with your screen being partially covered by rust and crud. May never get that part of the screen very clean either.
I tee off the tank with a water/rust trap and radiator valve on the end so I can drain off any water, rust, or just drain the tank with a hose into a can. Cheaper than one of those airplane tank valves and tester.
Off the middle of the tee I have a regular 3/8" ball valve and then elbow down to the sediment bowl. My new $50 sediment bowl from caseih never did shut off completely. All fittings are brass.
