Welcome to the Willys truck fraternity, it's an incurable disease. I have owned a '48 for almost 20 years. Mine is far, far from origanal now, but I have owned and worked on some origanals. From the picture, your engine is an L-226, and was swapped in. The cut front crossmember says yours had the 4 cyl. origanally. If memory serves, the 226 was not installed as OEM until the '53 model. It was used from then until at least 1962. There are some web sites that might be of some help with serial numbers. One of those is "willystech.com". Good luck, Ken
