Here in central IL we have a very white christmas. About 6 inches of nice new white snow. Still, its another day on the farm and things go on just like any other day.
Before going to christmas eve dinner with the family, chores need to be done. Checking on the cows while the snow falls.
A couple of young cows check me out while I check on the tank heater in their water tank.
After checking on the cows I head back home down the road. Snow on christmas eve is nice.
Back home, the calves raced outside as soon as I started the tractor. They know exactly what that noise is.
24 noses in the bunk and eating, perfect.
After a little shoveling of snow this morning feeding was under way.
Doing chores alone today and with the snow I was a little late getting to the cows. But they were happy to see me!
Enjoying a mix of hay, corn stalks, corn gluten and corn silage. It has a nice smell to it actually.
This group of heifers will grab a mouthfull out of every pile and follow me to the last pile and stay there and eat. I have no idea why.
As I finished up chores at the Higgs farm the sun was trying to poke out.
I guess I wasnt alone doing chores really. Wrigley was doing his job talking to the cows while I took pics. He is wore out and napping somewhere, a quick look around and I dont see him downstairs so that means he is sleeping on the foot of my bed. Not much traffic out and about while I did chores this morning. Mostly snow plows and I saw a couple of guys goose hunting. Much like wrigley I am planning on a lazy christmas afternoon. From here on the farm, merry christmas everybody !! bill

Following seven years working in California's Silicon Valley, my wife, baby son and I moved back to Australia to retire. We bought a small 'farm' of about 50 acres near Bendigo, in the state of Victoria. I soon found that it would be very useful to have a tractor around the place for things such as grading our long drive and brush-hogging the fields. I was also embarking on planting 1000 eucalyptus trees, and hence I would need a ripper, small disk plow, sprayer etc. to get these things accompli
