Years ago we had a MM similar to the one in your first picture. One difference I can see is ours had at least two sets of worn out u-joints in the steering shaft. Made for lots of slack, and if the front wheels caught on a plow furrow you had to just let 'er go and clutch it. It also had both a hand clutch and a foot clutch. Hand clutch allowed live PTO if I remember right. It was a very reliable tractor - started by just momentarily punching the starter button even in zero weather - had a nice throaty roar - I liked running it.
