The salt is soluble, and wash the wheels well to remove any traces, then sand and prime. You're getting continued corrosion around the pits because either: 1. there is still salt in the pits, or 2. there isn't any salt in the pits, but you are just getting continued corrosion from the most likely spot (askj me for a discussion on a small anode and large cathode and pitting corrosion).
: I agree that calcium choride is a poor choice; even ethylene glycol would be just as heavy and easier to work with. ::::: I'm probably wrong, but my understanding, is that calcium choride works just like ethylene glycol, being that its chief function is to lower the freezing point of water. One just existed before the other. As far as the pit holes, I think sandblasting, followed by a heavy build epoxy primer would fix the problem. At least until you could put your tires on and let enough time go by to forget about it.
