Fantastic procedure! Just make absolutely sure that you have a very experienced eye specialist perform the surgery. My dad had his eyes done in the early 90's when it was a relatively new procedure with very few specialists that were performing it. My dads optometrist recommended my dad pay the extra money and go to Calgary(3 hours away) to the Gimbel Eye Center(a pioneer in cataract surgery). The procedure was normally $4000/eye back then but Alberta healthcare paid half. My dad said it was like getting a new set of eyes! They also gave him a video of the whole procedure. Only takes about a minute. The reason my dads optometrist recommended going to Gimble(private clinic) over having it done in the hospital at an even lower cost was because another client of the optometrists wanted to save money and didn't mind waiting to have it done in the hospital. Bad mistake on the patients part. He was left with scratched corneas and other problems from the surgery. The optometrist couldn't give the same of the Dr. who botched the surgery because of legal reasons. There has been a lot of debate over private clinics in Alberta. The Gimble Eye Center was one of the first private specialty clinics. They had patients from all over the world with a better than 99% success rate. My dad didn't regret going there at all. Dave
