I'm not sure what the population is of the county where I live in Middle Tennessee, but I'd guess it's somewhere in the 30,000 to 50,000 range. We have 22 County Commissioners, plus each of the towns in the county have their own Board of Mayor and Aldermen.
One of my close friends was elected to the County Commission last fall. He's a regular guy who just decided to run. He's retired and spends a great deal of time visiting county government facilities and just talking to people.
If a person has the time, it's a worthy endeavor to serve.
