If by priming the pump does not get it to start working, you are probably sucking air on the intake line. Put a section of clear plastic hose in the intake line before it goes into the pump and look for air in oil when running it. I put some piping into the filler hole and raised it up in the air and added a extra two gallons of oil to get it above the piping you are asking about to find my air leak. On my 450 before me some one put another pump on it thinking it was the problem when it was a air leak.
