I went through the same nonsense - but it was the dealer's fault, not the fault of Deere Company.
I needed engine parts for my Deere 1010 and a friend's 300 industrial. Even had the proper part #s in hand. Walked into the local Deere dealership - and yeah - a young guy with ear-stud, earrngs, and half-pink hair started arguing with me - telling me that the parts I wanted were wrong. I soon found out he did not even know what a 1010 is!. A 300, sure . . . he told me it's a garden tractor (instead of a yellow 1020). Then the service manager came out, and it wound up he'd never heard of a 1010 OR a 300. He argued that they must be some sort of compact tractors. I don't think there was a person in that building over 30 years old.
So, here I am. Worked at many Deere dealerships as a mechanic since the 1960s, had all the correct part numbers with me, and still got nothing but a run-around.
I get much better service when I call the parts place at this Website. Nice people who know a lot and are also open-minded.

From the engine number, it was found that this Major was produced late 1946. It was almost complete but had various parts that would definitely need replacing.
