1st off I agree with you. You will have to take into account that the parts person may be making minimum wage. You will not get the best and brightest at that pay scale. It is just another way to cut cost and profit by economics of scale. In short it is what the consumer wants-whether at Deere, Walmart, or any retail business. We have moved towards homogenization at a break neck pace.
Secondly I teach school for a living and I firmly believe you have not seen anything yet-the lack of cognitive skills and shallow thinking is only beginning to raise its ugly head in our society. In today's world if it cannot be quick and instant people loose interest fast. Texting and cellphones have created a generation of drones who cannot read, write or think. We spend all our time raising the ability of the bottom 10% at the expense of the top 20%. We need people to find alternative sources of fuel, discover a cure for cancer, get us to mars-todays schools will not allow that. You cannot have high performing students-IT EMBARASSES THE LOW PERFORMERS.
Thirdly most homes are broken with a father figure that is shadow at best. What does all this have to do with ordering parts at a John Deere store. I would argue plenty.
