I also agree that a detergent oil is best, however, what you were not told is why. The purpose of the detergents is to keep carbon deposits and dirt ( sludge ) in suspension in the oil so that they are removed with the oil when changed , thus preventing a build up in the engine. If the engine has had non-detergent oil used in it for a long time you should pull the oil pan and remove any sludge build up . Otherwise the detergent oil is going to start pulling a high concentration or sludge into suspension and you will quickly contaminate your oil. Good luck, John
