I was headed for town on Friday to get some roofing sheet metal I had ordered. A young prong horned buck came out of the ditch right at my drivers door. He figured out he did not make the crossing just in time to turn his body but his head hit the 8" vertical channel iron on the gooseneck trailer I was pulling. The blow killed him dead as he spun around and landed in the ditch. I stopped and backed up and loaded him up onto the flat bed trailer by hand. Nice young deer, maybe 200 pounds. Used my cell phone and called the Sheriff dispatcher and ask for a "car v. deer" tag and she said to stop in for one. One deer for the freezer with no permit fee. Had him butchered and quartered by sundown.
