If you are saying you want to convert your 6 volty system to a 12 volt system - then any 12 volt alternator will work if you wire it in correctly. The many "12 volt conversion" kits commonly found for tractors are usually based on the cheap, common, old-tech, Delco 10SI alternators. Easy to work on, and parts are cheap. Including internal self-excite regulators for $10 that allow a one-wire hookup. Not the most compact alternator around, but fine for many tractors. Nice thing about the 10SI is it can be easily taken apart with no de-soldering needed.
I prefer Hitachis pulled from rusty Subarus, Datsuns/Nissans, or Isuzus, especially for tractors with hoods that don't fit around Delco 10SIs very well. But I don't buy kits.
