After we retrieved a body from the Mississippi River one afternoon, a news reporter from the local TV asked where the body was. ( We usualy keep all boats in position, and then one boat slips up or down river with the body and loads into a ambulance preplaned at that location.
I wasn't even in charge of the scene at the time, but I unloaded on her as to respect for the family etc. She did get red in the face, but she never missed a beat, she no doubt had been told off before, and considered it part of the job.
Another time I volenteered to take some city pumps to a neighboring town for a flood, and then return right away.
Thirty hrs later, and still maning the pumps because no one else came to relieve me, a lady news reporter showed up. She started asking me a dozen questions. I had not slept, and was in no mood to share the news story...bla bla bla.
I happened to notice a guy standing a hundred foot away, that I hardly knew, but heard he was a person that loved a good prank.
She asked me where the dike was that was ready to break? I said that that guy was in complete charge of all operations here today, so off she ran with the camera rolling.
The guy had just got there fifteen munites beforehand, and had no clue what the heck was going on. He had decided to come help sand bag. All I could see was him flopping his arm, and shaking his head. Finaly he looked over in my direction, and seen us all laughing.
On another ocasion, a small plane had went down, and some of us had checked it out, an set up a road stop to keep away everyone till the aviation athorities got there.
A very young slender gall showed up with the local TV car. We all walked over and explained that she could go no farther. It seems young blondes with short skirts on get alot of help from firemen. So as we all were leaning on her car, she got out, and walked away with the big camera on her shoulder. She walked about twenty feet, and turned around at a dead run, and with short heels on, climbed up on the car top, and started filming the plane wreck.
We all stood their, not necessaraly checking out the plane crash, not saying a word about not filming.
A few days later we got to talking, that she knew how to handle us guys to get her way. As she was zooming to see what she wanted to see, none of us guys had to zoom at all.
