Yes. Here in NY, the nearest City of any size is 22 miles from where I live (Oneonta or Cooperstown). And, they are more like a big towns then Cities. Big enough to have a Walmart and Home Depot and Mcdonalds.
My place in Michigan is similar - but a bit more rural. More like it was here in NY 30 years ago. I've got a small farm in Hawks, Presque Isle Co. MI. Nearest city is Rogers City about 15 miles away. No Home Depot and NO Walmart but does have a McDonalds. For Home Depot or Walmart, I have to drive 50-60 miles to Alpena - or the other direction to Cheyboygan.
I've always had to scrounge for income here in NY. Nothern Michigan looks to be even tougher.
