I had to borrow some put about 40% down but could have sold out anytime with a profit.Times have changed real estate is dropping again in value as unemployment is high plus a load of foreclosures coming on the market will continue to drive the market down I know plenty of couples that owe 30% to 40% more than they could sell for,if one of them looses their job they'll loose it all.Plus energy is headed up so that'll drive the price on everything else down as most people have to buy gas/diesel and heat their homes not to mention food prices and most people will want to eat rather than buy real estate. There is a farm next to me for sale I could buy it if I wanted so far they've halfed the price and will have to halve it again for me to even think seriously about it,back in 07 they could have sold it easily for the original asking price.
