Within the past 15 years we have put in new HVAC in two different homes we lived in. Both homes originally had propane furnace heat and outside unit with compressor and A-coil refrigeration, forced air system. The first home was refitted with a new propane boiler for domestic hot water and a heat exchanger and new A-coil setup for refrigeration, forced air system. The second home was refitted with a heat pump system, and used a propane hot water heater for domestic hot water use.
Our average heating bill was $200/month, our average cooling bill was $275/month over several years after the HVAC upgrades at both homes. The first home was about 1800 sqft. The second home was about 1400 sqft. We saved some on HVAC costs, but both systems failed during the warranty period which was a bummer. However, the companies involved did honor the warranty.
Our new home this year has a firewood boiler with heat built into the floors. We're using 75% coal and 25% firewood. So far our heat costs are lower. We will add a harbor point A/C unit for cooling this spring. New home is 1000 sqft with 720 sqft shop. Both home and shop have heated floors and we have had zero weather already. The system keeps us warm, just keep adding coal twice a day. WMS

They were horrified (we lived by the railroad), my mother thought the worst: "He’s been run over by a train, he’s gone forever!" Where did they find me? Perched up on the seat of the tractor. I’d probably plowed about 3000 acres (in my head anyway) by the time they found me. This is where my love for tractors started and has only gotten worse in my tender 50 yrs on this “green planet”. I’m par
