I've never known brakes to be covered under warranty, although for brakes to fail at 33K there MIGHT be a defect for which the dealer will cover under warrantee. I have heard of rotors being replaced under warrantee, but brake pads are wear items and at the very least you'll probably end up paying dealer list (~100 bucks per set) for the pads.
Personally, I'd take to an independent shop I trust. But if your wife is more comfortable having the work done at the dealer, it's probably less aggravation in the long run to let her take it in. Figure a minimum of $200 front/$200 rear to have the work done at the dealer.
