My best friend owns an abrasives sales company. Has been in the wheel business for over 50 years. He taught me to never face or be any closer than you need to be when you start up a grinder or cut off machine. If it is going to fail (explode) it will usually do so in the first 5 seconds. Lots of reasons for this. Wheel damged because machine was moved. Machine hit by something. Aging process. Corrosion since last spinup. Anyway guys, when hitting that "on" switch, turn your back on the machine for ten seconds. And NEVER operate a grinder or cutter without a full face shield.
