presume you're talking about the big 400s. as Harry mentioned its set up like the 770/880 olies with 2 sets in one shifter. 1-4 in the 'rearward" position 5-8 forward. the gears are "backwards" from most standard shift patterns though. 1st/5th is in the lower right spot. 4th/8th is in the upper left and reverse is far left back( towards you) I've found the to be a bit much to get in between ranges (probably worn out) so I switched my from a 61 730 parts tractor to a dual shifter set up. some like the 2 stick some like 1.
