Hi all, I sure hope someone here can help shed some light on this...
I have a cat 3208 in an old rv. I tried to start it in the cold and when it wouldn't start, I turned the key off but it just kept going - the starter was going and turning over the engine.
I ran out to disconnect the batteries and while I was doing that the engine quit turning over, but the starter kept going.
That's what it's doing now if I reconnect the batteries the starter makes noise but does not turn over the engine. This is with the ignition off.
I disconnected what I thought was the starter relay or maybe an ignition relay, but I get no change if I connect the battery - still the starter makes noise, but no engine turning over - and ignition still off.
Something froze and now is delivering power to the starter regardless of relay or ignition? Don't know. Do you think I need a new starter? Is the relay located right on the starter assembly?
If you can help at all, thank you very much for your time.

In this series we are going to investigate and learn the basic rudimentary skills of understanding this lingo.
