Gold (silver as well) is real money, nobody can change that. It will always be desired regardless of what happens. If we end up under a new "world currency", for example, it will be the only money you will have that is worth anything. All those dollars in retirement and any other savings account will be worth no more than toilet paper. It is worthwhile in buying.
