I stopped going about 7 or 8 years ago. The not loading you after approx. 5pm thing is the big reason why I quit going. That's plain dumb, especially when it all had to be out in about 5 days. They'd limit how many people went in at a time, even if you were going to load your own stuff, and you'd sit in line for 3-5 hours waiting to load. They might let in 4 or 5 trucks/trailers an hour to load. I got locked in one night at about 10 pm. after loading my own stuff and helping a neighbor load. 3 of us guys had to pick up a 3 bottom mounted plow by hand. Went to leave and both east exits were padlocked. Took a good half an hour to find someone to let us out. I never went back.
It always rained. Spring or fall, every time I went, one good rain was guaranteed. Fairgrounds was a giant mud pit. I bid on wheel weights that were completely under water one year. They can't control the weather, but it's not the crowd's fault that the fairgrounds turned into a swamp either. Then, if you got stuck in the fairgrounds, nobody would pull you out. A guy bought a IH 560 one year I was there and I bet he had it paid for in an hour pulling stuck vehicles out.
I miss the people I used to talk to/meet up with there, but not the auction, the way they ran it, or the location.
